With Gratitude for the Michael and Suanne Yarbrough Endowed Scholarship
The Phillips University Legacy Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Michael and Suanne Yarbrough Endowed Scholarship, made possible by a generous gift from alumni Michael and Suanne Yarbrough.
This scholarship aims to support higher education and leadership development opportunities for students attending Disciples-related colleges and universities, much like Phillips University did for almost 100 years.
Michael and Suanne Yarbrough are both distinguished graduates of Phillips University. Michael earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in graphic design and watercolor in 1972, followed by a Master of Divinity in 1976. Suanne earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1975. Their journey together began on Suanne’s first day on campus, and two years later, they were married in Bivens Chapel in the Marshall Building. Michael and Suanne went on to have significant careers in ministry and education, respectively.
“The Legacy Foundation is attractive to us because it gives these student leaders attending Disciples-related universities financial support,” said Michael and Suanne.
“We continue to give to the Foundation because of the growing number of students involved. As the cost of higher education rises, we hope the amount of each scholarship will increase. In the long term, we hope supporting these student leaders will impact our churches and society.”
The Yarbroughs’ commitment to the Legacy Foundation was further solidified after meeting Lindsay Maisberger, a Phillips University Undergraduate Legacy Scholar and member of First Christian Church in McKinney, Texas, where their son-in-law, Peter Mitchell, serves as minister. This personal connection has deepened their dedication to supporting the Foundation.
“We see supporting the Phillips Legacy Foundation as good stewardship of our financial dollars in the name of Phillips University,” the Yarbroughs added. “Our donations are a good investment in the education and lives of these student leader scholars.”
The Phillips University Legacy Foundation is honored to have the support of the Yarbroughs. Their generosity will ensure that future generations of student leaders have the resources they need to succeed and make meaningful contributions on their respective campuses, in their communities and beyond. With the creation of the Michael and Suanne Yarbrough Scholarship, the foundation now has six fully funded endowed scholarships.
