Alumni Launch Campaign
to Honor Dr. Nancy Ogle
For many Phillips University alumni, Dr. Nancy Ogle was more than a professor. She was a mentor, encourager, and trusted guide whose influence extended far beyond the classroom. Today, a dedicated group of alumni is working to ensure that her legacy continues.
The campaign to establish the Dr. Nancy Ogle Endowed Scholarship Fund began with alumni and friends who wanted to create a lasting tribute to the beloved sociology professor whose teaching and mentorship shaped countless lives.
Led by Connie (Sloan) Inglish ’78, Steve Whitfill ’73, and Bill Major ’70, these alumni have joined together to honor Dr. Ogle in a meaningful way by creating a permanently endowed scholarship in her name.
To bring this vision to life, the group has partnered with the Phillips University Legacy Foundation and launched a fundraising effort to raise $200,000 to fully endow the scholarship.
Once funded, the endowment will support a Phillips Legacy Scholar year after year, ensuring Dr. Ogle’s commitment to education and student success lives on.

The scholarship will support students attending Disciples of Christ colleges and universities, with priority given to students pursuing studies in sociology or social work and to Phillips University legacies. Because the fund is endowed, gifts made today will continue creating educational opportunities far into the future.
To encourage participation, donors have established a matching opportunity for the first $50,000 in gifts pledged, allowing supporters to double the impact of their contributions during the campaign’s initial phase.
In addition, individuals who make a gift before July 1, 2027, will be recognized as Founding Donors of the Dr. Nancy Ogle Endowed Scholarship Fund, forever linking their generosity to this lasting tribute.
The alumni leading this effort believe the scholarship reflects the values Dr. Ogle instilled in her students: service, compassion, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to helping others succeed. Now they are inviting fellow alumni and friends to join them in honoring a professor who made a difference in so many lives.
