Taeshawn Garrard is a first-year student at Transylvania University, where he is pursuing a double major in Engineering and Psychology, combining his passion for technical innovation with a desire to better understand and serve people and communities. Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, Taeshawn recently graduated from Carter G. Woodson Academy.

Throughout high school, Taeshawn demonstrated a strong dedication to both academic achievement and personal growth. As a dedicated student-athlete, he competed in track and field at Frederick Douglass High School, where he developed discipline, resilience, and leadership through teamwork and competition. His experiences as Team Captain strengthened his ability to lead by example, persevere through challenges, and encourage others to reach their fullest potential. He looks forward to continuing his running career in college.

Beyond academics and athletics, Taeshawn distinguished himself through exceptional leadership and community involvement. He served in student leadership roles, contributed to media arts initiatives, and took on meaningful responsibilities within his church community. As a leader at his local church camp and an active participant in regional youth leadership programs within his denomination, he demonstrated a deep commitment to mentoring younger students and guiding his peers with integrity, compassion, and faith.

Deeply rooted in his community, Taeshawn aspires to use his education, leadership, and service experiences to create meaningful change. By blending the technical problem-solving skills of engineering with the human-centered insights of psychology, he hopes to develop innovative solutions that improve lives and leave a lasting, positive impact on the communities he serves.
