D.O.D 08/23/2001 - Guy W. Bowman was born Feb. 5, 1914, in Mangum to William and Katie Fuller Bowman and died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He moved to Enid in 1917, with his family. He graduated from Enid High School in 1933 and attended Phillips University and Oklahoma A&M. He married Fannie Cobb July 8, 1944, at Laredo, Texas. They were married for 54 years. During World War II, he served in the European Theater training gunners for B-24 bombers. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force. He continued serving in the National Guard. He worked as a mail carrier and later supervisor of carriers with the Postal Service. Upon his retirement, he worked as an assistant golf pro at Oakwood Country Club. He was president of the Prime Timers at First Baptist Church from 1983 to 1991; member of Masonic Lodge; White Shrine; Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 36; Enid Shrine and Akdar Temple Shrine of Tulsa. Surviving are his daughter, Karine Owens of Enid; three grandchildren; and one great- granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie in 1999, one sister and one brother. | |
