D.O.D 12/04/1976 - Rev. Alfred W. Anderson, 83, died December 4, 1976. Anderson, a member of Garfield Park Christian Church in Santa Cruz, California, served as pastor of the First Christian Church in Pacific Grove for 2 1/2 years before moving to Santa Cruz in 1950. He was a retired U.S. Army chaplain and was a member of the D.A.V. for 33 years. He served pastorates in Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. He was ordained in 1917 at Princeton, Kansas. He attended Baker University at Baldwin, Kansas, Johnson Bible College in Tennessee, and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He had two degrees from Phillips University: A.B. in 1922 and M.A. in 1924 and was always grateful for Phillips's contribution to his life, successful ministry and the demands of a transport chaplain in W.W.II. He was a veteran of World War I, as well as serving on a troop transport in World War II. He belonged to the Santa Cruz Chapter 52 of the Disabled American Veterans and was a life member of the Retired Officers Association, Santa Cruz chapter. He and his wife, Verna, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1972. He had a son, James E. Anderson. | |
