Danahy, Michael

D.O.D 02/26/2014 - Mike Danahy was born August 19, 1954, in Enid to John M. and Geneva Allen Danahy.

Mike grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School in 1972. He attended and graduated from Phillip University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.

Mike started his career as a patrolman in 1977 and was promoted to detective sergeant in 1980. Mike was promoted to captain in 1982 and retired in 1998 as the assistant to the chief. He held the position of hostage negotiator, Public Information Officer, Professional Standards Investigator, Civil Service Commission Secretary and various other positions. He continued his service to the Enid community as the General Manager of the Enid Public Transportation Authority from 1998 to 2003, where he was responsible for every aspect of the Enid Transit. Mike was the director of the city of Enidís Juvenile Services Division from 2003 to February 2007. Mike later went to work for the Community Intervention Center/Juvenile Services Manager from February 2007 to December 2007. Mike was with Youth and Family Services of North Central Oklahoma from December 2007 to present, where he was the First Time Offender Coordinator, whose duties included working with the city attorney, Garfield County Juvenile and the Office of Juvenile Affairs in making court-ordered referrals to the program. Mike served as a board of director for Child Advocacy Council, Enid Police Civil Service Commission chairman, FTOP Statewide Subcommittee, a past member of Enid Public School Foundation, past board member of the Salvation Army, past campaign coordinator for the City of Enid United Way and past chairman of Sandra Beasley Independent Living Center board of directors.

Mike married April Craddock on November 11, 1989, in Enid. Mike and April enjoyed their time together, making music and having fun.

Mike had three daughters, Melissa Danahy, Jennifer Danahy, and Sarah Dyer. He died February 26, 2014.

Mike will be missed for all he did to help in our community. We will miss his affinity for Paul McCartney and his spot-on renditions of Cat Stephens and most of all will miss his friendship. Mike was an extremely solid guy who embodied integrity. Those who loved him and worked with him were blessed to experience his humor, kindness and reliability.
