D.O.D 03/06/2012 - The Reverend Dr. William C. Howland, Jr. passed away earlier today on March 6, 2012, at 12:54 a.m. in Austin, Texas. According to family members, he was at home and at peace, and all of his children were present with him. Please surround Ann and their family with your prayers and words of encouragement. Dr. Howland in Austin, Texas, in 2011 Dr. Howland was Senior Minister of National City Christian Church from 1977 to 1995 and oversaw many changes during his tenure, including the renovation of the sanctuary and the building of the Beasley Building, the Undercroft, and the Columbarium. He was instrumental in beginning an inclusive, multiracial, and multicultural ministry here, welcoming persons within the LGBT community, and establishing a Hispanic ministry. The world and our church are a better place because Dr. Howland lived and ministered among us. And today the heavenly home is greatly enriched, because our brother in Christ resides now with his Creator. Dr. Gentle and Dr. Howland in 2006Information regarding arrangements for a Memorial Service in Austin, Texas, is forthcoming. Some time later there will be an Inurnment Service at National City Christian Church when Dr. Howland is inurned in the Columbarium. | |
