The Phillips University Legacy Scholars are excited to announce the kickoff of “Keep the Legacy Strong!” - a campaign to build scholarships with dollar-for-dollar matching funds. “The goal for the campaign is to raise $30,000 by June 30,” said Valerie Richardson, Foundation Development Director. “If we can accomplish this goal, we have the opportunity to double that amount through the generosity of long-time supporters Richard and Becky Books.”

The Books are both 1974 graduates of Phillips University and have been ardent supporters of the Legacy Scholarship and Leadership Development Program, having previously funded an endowment which provides income for an annual scholarship. The $30,000 campaign, if doubled to $60,000, will help the Legacy Foundation provide twelve scholarships for the 2018-19 academic year.

Erin Michael, a current Legacy Scholar and senior psychology major at Drury University, loves how the Legacy Scholarship and Leadership Development Program has given her the opportunity to foster relationships, make connections with students and Phillips alumni from across the United States, and acquire the skills to become the leader she always wanted to be.

“The PULF Scholarship and Leadership Development Program is so much more than just the ‘scholarship’ I was expecting,” said Erin. “When I applied for the program, I did not fully comprehend that I was applying to be part of a community – a family – but I’m so glad that I did.”

“It’s a group of people who share a similar faith and similar education values, and who are just as excited about and proud of my achievements as I am,” she continued.

Kelly Coker, Executive Director, said 25 Phillips University Legacy Scholars will be announced on June 1, 2018. “This is a remarkable group of young Christian leaders with servant hearts and incredible potential. We are thrilled to partner with the Scholars in their educational pursuits, so Phillips University can continue to make a difference in the world!”
