Undergraduate students who are pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree and attending a college or university as listed in the current Yearbook & Directory of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) may apply for a Phillips University Legacy Scholarship. Annual scholarships are intended to support and enrich the educational experience and leadership capabilities of future Christian leaders. Scholarship awards may be applied to tuition, books, room and board, lab fees, and similar educational expenses incurred within the college/university.
Volunteer Service Projects
Because service to others is an important aspect of Christian leadership, Legacy Scholars perform at least one Volunteer Service Project each year. These projects may involve experiences with local charitable agencies, churches, or college activities. Scholars have worked with young children, built homes with Habitat for Humanity, assisted in disaster relief, conducted Bible studies and participated in mission trips.
Leadership Development Conference
A highlight of the Legacy Scholars program is the annual Leadership Development Conference. The purpose of each Conference is to provide substantial educational, personal and professional development opportunities that will enhance the growth and development of the scholarships individual, group leadership and life building skills. Scholars, alumni, former Phillips faculty, lay leaders and notable Christian leaders enjoy networking and exchanging ideas about successful leadership experiences. Team building exercises, ropes courses, small group interactions, worship services, panel presentations and reports on volunteer service projects are just a few of the exciting activities included in the program.
